Sep. 12th, 2006 11:30 amSorry, the last couple of weeks went by faster than I have had time to sit down and type things out. Michigan Renaissance Festival was wonderful, we had gorgeous weather and a lovely time there. Wandering around with Court on Monday at least gave me some time to formulate ideas for this year's garb, and it helped to have physical representations of some of the concepts that have been in my head for most of the summer. Such as a tiny tall hat, it was so cute in blue stripes, and the doublets, those were useful to see, and sizes of hoopskirts. Which, mine apparently has bit the dust, the strapping I used for it disliked being twisted up for moving and is now incapable of holding the skirts in the proper shape. I was not happy on Monday morning, but managed to ignore it for the rest of the day.
I've decided the next gown needs to be out of wool. And in better colors than the crap you can get at JoAnn's, which means saving money and either, finding a wool mill or looking online. Green and gold, I believe, and I'm hoping to have the time to have the entire thing completed, down to sleeves. And I have to start all over with corset and hoops, too. This should be a fun year. Corset needs to be longer, shaping over the hips so that is doesn't dig and front lacing, so that I don't have to have someone lace me up all the time. Hoops, a bit smaller than the old ones but still useable with the blue velvet gown- which skirts can be rehemmed to fit a smaller hoop anyway. Chemise, either out of silk or lightweight linen, high necked and with blackwork again. It works really well with my coloring and facial structure, and I had a lot of fun and learned a lot with the last one and have ideas to improve on it.
Other projects
clean sewing machines/ start with the running one and work down from there
Line cloak with flannel and finish by Oct.
Sleepy pants
gloves and muff/or capelet- buff rabbit fur and leather
sleeves for blue velvet- blue leather and red
repair jewelry from blue velvet (belt broke at U-Ren and necklace at Michigan)
U,mmm....and I think that is it for the moment. Classes begin next Wednesday and I am working all of this week, even to the point of working four hours each on the days I am supposed to be off (Today and Wed), but hey it's money and I've recieved a raise and am to get another one in a couple of weeks. So really, life isn't too bad, but for things that I think are not going to matter much in the long run.
