All right, it's been awhile since I posted but trust me not a lot has happened. I have been getting to know my roomie for OSU and my IA buddy who is simply an older member of the International Studies Program. She's hilarious and here is what she sent me to introduce herself. I think I have met her before, her name sounds familar and not because it's the Queen of Summer and Light.
Hi there Jessica,
This is Tatiana , writing and reporting for duty as your IA buddy. Hahaha, sorry, couldn't
help myself. Its been a long summer.... Anyway, I just wanted to say "hey" and let you know that if
you have any questions feel free to ask. As your IA buddy I am supposed to act somewhat mature, help
you out, and get to know you. Lemme just say from the very beginning that only two of these three
things are probably going to happen (the last two, if you havent already figured it out, lol)
Now I am supposed to tell you more about myself. Communications major..blaa blaa..German and
International Studues minors..blaa blaa..like tennis.. blaa blaa.. love to read.. blaa blaa. By your
email address at yahoo I can see you might be into fantasy stuff (or it could just be a sick coincidence, lol), so I know we will have at least one thing in common. I am sure there will be many more. Email me back and tell me a little about yourself.
I hope you are having a great summer and if not then you'll have a great year at OSU as compensation.
Are you living in the dorm this fall? Most of the IA scholars do so until I learn otherwise, I'll
keep writing as if you are too.
Now its time for all the unasked for advice and information you could ever want:
1) get here supper early on the day you are moving into the dorms because there is virtually no
parking at Morisson.
2) talk to your roommate before arriving to avoid having two of everything
3) get there early to pick out the desk and closet space you want before your roommate gets there
and leaves YOU no choice
4) talk to your roommate beforehand to minimize problems caused by #3
5) campus is not as big as you may think it is.. j/k it really is big, but easy to navigate
6) most of your classes will be on north campus, so expect to walk 15-20 minutes getting to class
from Morisson
7) get your books as soon as you can to avoid the rush at SBX
8) South campus is the best. Its lots of fun and has the best food places near by, therefor walking
an extra long time to class is worth it
9) dont forget that your bed needs those special extra long sheets that you will never be able to
use again... i think target has them
10) bring a shower caddy
11) car is optional but more often then not you wont need it, ever
12) wasting time between classes by riding the CABS (campus busses) over and over is forbidden....
I found that out after being yelled at by an irrate bus driver
13) The Campus Loop bus will become your best friend in the winter
14) construction is never ending so get used to seeing orange wherever you go
15) unless you are a vegetarian or like salads, say goodbye to vegetables
16) your Buck ID will become your second best friend
17) dont loose your room key on pain of death... not really but paying 100 dollars can be just as
bad
18)= the age you need to be to get into 4 Kegs and Old School
19) be wary of offers of free food...thats how they get you to go places that you really dont want
to be
20) bring your own food and drinks... you will have a microwave and frig, use them
21) get a floor rug of some kind, cuz hard tile is no fun to bust your but on
22) if you are thinking of taking the top bunk, be aware that there usually aren't any latters
23) find the person with the biggest room and party in theres so that yours stays clean. If you are
the person with the biggest room then have fun :)
24) any kind of appliance that heats is forbidden ex. coffee maker, hot plate.. although for some
strange reason irons and hair curlers are allowed... but if you cant live without coffee then just
hide the machine until after roommate agreement because after that your RA will never come in your
room again
25) pets... anything that doesnt live in a small fish tank or empty alcohol bottle is forbidden
26) jumping in Mirror Lake in November during Michigan week may be a time honored tradition but
there are hazards to ones health in doing so
27) shaving in the dorm showers with disgusting walls you dont want to touch should be an olympic
sport in gymnastics
28) setting up your voicemail on the room phone takes a genious in phone engineering... took me 3
months to figure it out
29) cable is FREE!!!! but not really since you are probably paying for it one way or another in
your tuition
30) finding a job is really hard on campus unless you are one of the Chosen aka work study people
31) college is easier than high school... at least it is for me
32) dont worry if you havent got a major picked yet and if you do, its probably not the one you are
going to stick with... I was a business major. It took me a year to figure out what i really wanted
to do. I am now a Communications major, lol.
33) stay with your laundry when you are washing them because people will steal your time and money
by throwing your clothes on the floor and putting theirs in
34) do not wear blue and yellow together during the football season because you will recieve dirty
looks
35) if you like sports, join the dorm flag football team... lots of fun
36) your roommate may not become your best friend but there are plenty of people around who you
will like instead
37) posters make white cement painted walls look less ugly
38) sleeping through lectures is the best way to recover that lost hour of sleep you didnt get the night before...professors usually have the notes on-line.
39) feel free to call me at (614) 330-**** (but if you call me before 7 pm on weekdays then I might
just have to maim you, j/k) or email me if you have any questions or if you want to come by some
time, I can show you around a little more, thats cool too
40) enjoy the rest of your summer and remember to bring your toothbrush!
